Western Astrology · Natal Chart
Your birth chart, explained.
A natal chart maps the sky at the exact moment and place of your birth. Every planet was somewhere — in a sign, in a house, forming angles with every other planet. That arrangement is yours alone.

What a natal chart contains
Six layers, one picture.
Sun sign
The zodiac sign the Sun occupied at your birth. In Western astrology it describes the core drive, the part of you most visible when you’re comfortable and confident.
Moon sign
The sign the Moon occupied. Associated with emotional patterns, instincts, and what you need to feel settled. Changes sign roughly every two and a half days.
Rising sign (Ascendant)
The zodiac sign rising on the eastern horizon at your birth moment. Often read as the outward manner, the first impression, and the filter through which your chart expresses itself. Requires accurate birth time.
Planet placements
Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto each occupy a sign and a house. Each planet describes a different domain: communication, attraction, drive, expansion, structure, disruption, dissolution, and transformation.
12 houses
The wheel is divided into twelve houses, each governing a domain of life — self-image, finances, communication, home, creativity, health, partnership, shared resources, beliefs, career, community, and the inner life. The house a planet falls in focuses where its energy is most active.
Aspects
Angular distances between planets describe how they interact. A trine (120°) suggests ease; a square (90°) suggests friction that pushes growth; a conjunction (0°) merges two planetary energies. A chart’s aspect pattern is as important as its individual placements.
How the calculation works
Real maths, plain words.
Zodiacs calculates Western natal chart placements from your birth date, birth time, and birthplace using standard astronomical ephemeris data. The Sun and outer planets move slowly enough that the date alone gives a reliable position. The Moon moves roughly one degree every two hours, so an off birth time shifts the Moon sign in borderline cases.
The Rising sign (Ascendant) and house cusps depend on both birth time and place — they complete a full rotation in 24 hours, changing sign about every two hours. If you do not know your exact birth time, Zodiacs still calculates your Sun and Moon signs accurately. The Rising sign and house positions are available once you provide a time and location.
Birth time is optional. The date alone gives a complete reading of the elements available without it. Zodiacs reads Western astrology alongside BaZi, Ziwei Doushu, and numerology, so the same birth details feed all four traditions at once.
What to do with it
A map you can use.
A natal chart is a tool for self-reflection, not a script. People use it in a range of practical ways: understanding emotional needs the Moon sign suggests, noticing communication patterns linked to Mercury, seeing relationship dynamics described in the seventh house, and identifying the areas of life where a planet's influence is concentrated.
Chart timing — tracking live transits as they contact your natal planets — can help with decision pacing: when to push a project forward, when to wait, when a period of friction is likely to pass. Zodiacs reads these transits daily against your chart, alongside the BaZi day cycle, so the signals from multiple traditions either reinforce or qualify each other.
Compatibility readings layer two natal charts together — the seventh house, Venus, and Mars placements in both charts describe where a pair sits easily and where it pulls against itself. Zodiacs also calculates Sun-sign compatibility as a starting point if you don't have a full chart yet.
